Introduction to The
Bailey Soda Kiln
Welcome to the Worcester Center for Crafts as we join an in-progress firing of the Bailey 18-C Soft Brick Soda Kiln! You will be introduced to the benefits of firing a soft brick kiln, loading methods, and learn of the sodium injection system used with this kiln. This introduction is part one of a three-part Zoom-based series where you can learn more about soda firing, and the wonderful results that can be created with this fuel-efficient kiln. Join us as well for parts two and three: part two later that evening (5 to 7 pm EST. via Zoom) will include soda solution injection, with an opportunity for Q & A. Part three will be Saturday evening from 5 to 7 pm, including a kiln unloading celebration and studio tour!

Firing the Bailey Soda Kiln
Join us from the Worcester Center for Crafts as we fire our Bailey Soda Kiln and inject the kiln with a sodium solution. Working at cone nine to ten we will make several rounds of injection or "charge" the kiln with soda ash solution, developing unique colors and surfaces on the ware. In between rounds of charging, draw rings and glaze samples will be pulled from the kiln to witness the effects and glaze build-up. In between "charge" sessions, we will also hold live Q & A's via Zoom, join us for a taste of soda firing, and join in the conversation.
