Artists in the Classroom

Craft PhotoArtists in the Classroom enables teachers and students, grades K-12, to work with a professional studio artist on a curriculum-based project. The teacher, artist and WCC's staff together develop lesson plans that enrich class curriculum through the arts. The artist works with the class at the school, either during or after school. Projects can be worked on in the classroom, in the school, and/or in the community. The time frame for projects depends on scope -- it may range from one 3-hour workshop to a six-week program.

Artists-in-the-Classroom program offers a hands-on element to lessons while based in the Massachusetts Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks as well as the school's curriculum. This innovative program can help teachers to reach a variety of learners, foster inquiry-based learning, link various disciplines and develop community relationships.
